What is a surplus window?

In addition to hundreds of factory direct, warranteed windows, the Millwork Outlet has thousands of surplus windows on their racks everyday. A surplus window is a new window that has never been installed, but was somehow unusable by the original purchaser, for reasons such as misorders, cancelled jobs, incorrect measurements, etc. Surplus windows are NOT necessarily blems, or defects; they have simply changed hands, voiding the factory warrantee. All surplus windows at the Millwork Outlet are vinyl, double pane, and energy efficient. If you want a great window, at a low price, and don’t mind not having a warrantee, the Millwork Outlet surplus yard is the place for you!

Pricing

To price surplus windows, the Millwork Outlet uses a system that takes into account a window size (the main pricing factor), opening type, glass type, shape, and grid pattern. That system is explained below:

            Step 1: Add width in inches plus heighth in inches to get “Base Size”
            Step 2: Multiply the “Base Size” number by:
                        .9 for Horizontal Sliders or casements
                        .8 for Single Hungs
                        .6 for Picture Windows
            Step 3: Add 15 for each of the following features:
                        Grids
                        Tempered glass
                        Multiple openers
            Step 4: Add $50 if the window has an arch top

Availability

Because the products in the surplus yard turnover so quickly and frequently, the Millwork Outlet does not keep an inventory of surplus windows. For obvious practical reasons, Millwork employees are not always able to hunt for customer measurements that are phoned in, so the best way to find a surplus window that works for you is to come in and take a look at the huge selection yourself.

Tips

- Don’t forget a tape measure.
- Know your maximum and minimum sizes possible. Don’t be confined to a specific size. Find out if you can increase, or fir in the size of your opening.
- BE FLEXIBLE! You will save the most money if you are flexible on size, opening type, and grid pattern.
